What Are the Basics of Dental Care?

Do you need to brush up on basic dental care? You’ll probably agree that maintaining great oral health is extremely important to your well-being. With Dental Care in Oviedo, we provide you with the top tips to protect your teeth. Check out these steps for keeping your teeth and gums strong!

Proper Brushing

You’ll need to thoroughly brush your pearly whites at least twice a day. It’s important to use the right equipment to get the job done – a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.

When you brush, remember to aim the bristles toward your gums. While holding your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle, gently brush the outside and inside of chewing surfaces.

Plus, don’t forget to brush your tongue using short back-and-forth motions. It’s important to keep your toothbrush clean at all times by rinsing it with water after each use and storing it in an upright position. Lastly, make sure to replace your toothbrush every three to four months or as soon as its bristles become frayed.

Proper Flossing

To reach tight spaces between the teeth and gums, you’ll need to floss daily. To do it right, break off about 46 centimeters of dental floss and wind it around the middle finger on one hand and around the middle finger on your other hand.

As you grip the floss tightly between your forefingers and thumbs, gently guide the floss between the teeth in a rubbing motion. Follow up by gargling with fluoride mouthwash.

Regular Dental Cleanings

We recommend getting dental cleanings every six months. Seeing your dentist on a regular basis allows them to detect dental health issues.
